Maria Approved It Recall Watch: Lundberg White Jasmine Rice

If rice is one of those staples you buy and tuck into the pantry without another thought, this recall is worth a quick label check.

FDA enforcement information currently identifies a voluntary recall involving Lundberg Family Farms White Jasmine Rice in 32-ounce, or 2-pound, packages because of the potential presence of foreign material. The recalling firm listed in the FDA enforcement data is Wehah Farms, and the product is manufactured and distributed under the Lundberg Family Farms name in Richvale, California.

What exactly is being recalled?

The affected product is Lundberg Family Farms White Jasmine Rice, also marketed as Regenerative Organic Certified White Jasmine Rice.

The affected UPC is 073416040281. Two lots are included: 260201MA, with a best-before date of February 1, 2027, and 260202MA, with a best-before date of February 2, 2027. FDA-linked enforcement information identifies 27,324 affected packages, equal to approximately 54,648 pounds of rice.

The affected rice was distributed in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.

Why was it recalled?

The FDA's stated reason is “potential contamination with foreign materials.” The agency has classified the recall as Class II. Under FDA classifications, that means exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, or that the probability of serious health consequences is remote.

Here is an important distinction: the specific foreign material has not been publicly identified.

That matters because Lundberg had a different rice recall in 2024 involving a foreign object described in FDA-linked records as appearing to be of rodent origin. We should not assume the same thing happened here. There is currently no verified evidence connecting that specific contaminant to the 2026 White Jasmine Rice recall.

Is this Lundberg's first recall?

No.

In 2024, Wehah Farms voluntarily recalled Lundberg Family Farms Sustainable Wild Blend Gourmet Rice after the product was found to potentially contain a foreign object described as appearing to be of rodent origin. That recall was also classified as Class II and involved approximately 4,600 cases.

FDA-derived recall records also document older recalls associated with Wehah Farms/Lundberg, including brown rice flour recalled in 2014 following a positive Salmonella test.

A previous recall does not automatically mean a company's current products are unsafe. It does, however, make recall history a reasonable part of evaluating a manufacturer's food-safety record.

Have people gotten sick?

When the 2026 recall was initially announced, Lundberg reported no illnesses associated with consumption of the affected rice. I have not found a subsequent public notice identifying illnesses related to this recall.

Is any other brand involved?

For recall H-0767-2026, the FDA enforcement information identifies this Lundberg Family Farms product. I found no other rice brand listed as part of this specific recall.

That distinction is important. This is not a recall of jasmine rice generally, organic rice generally, or all Lundberg rice. It applies to the specific product, UPC and lots listed above.

What should consumers do?

Check the bag rather than relying on the appearance of the packaging alone. If the UPC, lot number and best-before date match the recalled product, do not eat the rice. Contact the retailer where you purchased it about a refund or dispose of it safely.

And if your bag doesn't match those identifiers, don't toss perfectly good rice because of a scary headline. Recall reporting should help us identify the actual risk, not turn the pantry into a crime scene.

Sources reviewed: FDA Enforcement Report information, Lundberg/retailer recall notices and current FDA-linked recall data. FDA notes that its Enforcement Report contains FDA-monitored recalls, including Class I, II and III recalls, and may contain information beyond the agency's consumer press-release recall page.

As of the latest available FDA-derived enforcement data, the recall is still listed as ongoing. Recall H-0767-2026 for Lundberg Family Farms White Jasmine Rice shows a status of “Ongoing”, with the recall initiated April 3, 2026 and published in the FDA Enforcement Report May 13, 2026.

One caution: retailers may already have removed affected inventory months ago, so “ongoing” does not mean recalled bags are necessarily still sitting on store shelves. It means the FDA recall action has not been formally closed.
